China is preparing for its next military parade on September 3, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory over Japan in World War II, with the display of a series of new drones and advanced combat systems.

Among them are the so-called “loyal wing” drones or Collaborative Combat Aircrafts (CCAs), including the stealthy GJ-11 Sharp Sword and other medium-range, long-endurance models. Some of the new unmanned aircraft feature innovative designs, such as modified delta wings and vertical take-off and landing systems, while others resemble international models like the FH-97 and MQ-28 Ghost Bat.

In addition to unmanned aviation, the parade will include hypersonic missiles YJ-17 and YJ-19, possible ICBMs and other ground launchers, as well as unmanned underwater and surface vehicles. Wheeled and tracked armored vehicles, many with augmented reality systems for the crew, will also make an appearance, along with a variety of air defense systems and directed energy weapons.

Although many of the new technologies are not yet confirmed as operational, the presentation aims to showcase China’s technological and military advancements.

The event highlights the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) strategy of modernizing its capabilities across multiple sectors and expanding its power projection beyond the region. With this, Beijing seeks to send global signals about its aerial, maritime, and ground combat capabilities, highlighting the development of drones and UCAVs, integration of manned and unmanned systems, and the evolution of its nuclear deterrence doctrine.
